New York Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) Requirements for Resident and Non-Residents
1) Attend a 16hr in person live classroom instruction that covers:
- General Firearm Safety
- Firearm Safe Storage
- State and Federal Gun Laws
- Situational Awareness
- Conflict de-escalation
- Adverse effects of alcohol and drug use
- Best Practices when encountering Law Enforcement
- Sensitive Locations
- Conflict Management
- Use of Deadly Force
- Suicide Prevention
- and Basic Principles of Marksmanship.
2) Pass a written test with a minimum score of 80%
3) Attend a 2hr live fire training course
4) Qualify on a live-fire proficiency assessment
- The live-fire proficiency assessment will be completed at Recoil Range 25 Mott Ave., Monroe Township, NJ 08831.
- You must bring eye/hearing protection, holster, firearm and 50 rounds of ammunition (If you do not have a firearm one can, be rented for the 2hr portion of the class)
****18USC926A (Interstate Transportation of Firearms) ****
Any person who is not otherwise permitted by this chapter from transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where they may lawfully possess and carry such firearm, if during such transportation the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle.
****(No personal guns and ammunition will be allowed in the 16hr classroom portion) ****
***You must be a United States Citizen or a Permanent Resident Alien (Green Card Holder) to take this course. ***
***Non-Residents have to go to 1 Police Plaza to get fingerprinted, NO EXCEPTIONS***
